In the early 90’s a genre of electronic music arose; fast tempos, percussive loops, long pitch-shifted snare rolls, old school Jungle… but it turns out the style of dance associated with this genre was actually just people trying to swat away bugs.

The Chemistry of Nature
Citronella essential oil obtained from the leaves and stems of Cymbopogon (lemongrass). Citronella is an effective repellent for body lice, head lice, mosquitos, ticks, and stable flies.
Mentha balsamea: Peppermint
Peppermint has a high concentration of natural biopesticides. The main constituents were menthol (40.7%) and menthone (23.4%) which have both been proven to deter a multitude of pests.
Citrus limon: Lemon
Lemon (Citrus limon) oil, is high in Limonene, that has been show an effective deterrent for fleas and ticks.
Syzygium aromaticum: Clove Bud
Many insects, such as ants, are attracted to sweet smells. Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) oil counter acts the “sweet” of some of the active ingredients in Junglista.
Thuja plicata: Western Redwood
Cedarwood Has long been used for its biopesticidal properties. Mosquitos, ticks, flea, and body lice are heavily repelled by the oil of this conifer.
Melaleuca alternifolia: Tea Tree
Tea tree is rich in Terinen-4-ol; a powerful deterrent.
Origanum vulgare: Oregano
Origanum vulgare is a flowering plant in the mint family that contains polyphenols and flavones traditionally used in Mediterranean regions and southwestern Eurasia as a pest deterrent.
Nepeta cataria: Catnip
Catnip contains Nepetalactone and is a mosquito and fly repellent. Oil isolated from catnip by steam distillation is a repellent against insects, in particular mosquitoes, cockroaches and termites. Research suggests that it is more effective spatial repellant than DEET.
Artemisia absinthium: Wormwood
Wormwood is rich in thujone: a natural occurring biopesticide.
Thyme (Thymus) essential oil has a multitube of antimicrobial properties and a range of compounds traditional used on medicated bandages.
Corymbia citriodora: Eucalyptus
Lemon Eucalyptus Lemon is rich in citronellal and 1,4-cineole, and is especially effective at deterring mosquitos and flies.
Pelargonium graveolens: Rose Geranium
Pièce de résistance! The oil of Rose Geranium contains a high concentration of citronellol, nerol and geraniol: deterring Mosquitos, ticks, body-lice, and flies.
